	"The Mother of All Witches: Baba Yaga and Brume in Patricia McKillip's In the Forests of Serre" In this book Patricia McKillip uses the tropes associated with the Russian witch Baba Yaga as qualities that she attributes to her character, Brume. Like Baba Yaga, Brume is a living genus locci for the tropes that attach themselves to the archetype of "the witch in the forest." I'm interested in ways that the story is mirrored in what I see as the reader's experience in reading this novel particularly in relation to trust and betrayal which many years ago ~~Arnarson~~ told me was the theme of the book (she probably doesn't remember this).
