Homage to The Poseidon Adventure. Xena, Gabrielle, Autolycus, and others, are trapped in the hold of a sinking ship.
Notes & spoilers
Xena proves herself a skeptic once again, pooh-poohing Gabrielle's interest in the palm-reader.
Cute moment when Gabby is about to get her fortune read:
- Palm reader: “You’re going on a long voyage. I see a man on
this voyage.”
- X: “Let me guess-- tall, dark, and handsome, right?”
A rather good description for Xena, we all note.
Gabby gets trapped on a ship again (see The Lost Mariner) & Xena does some amazing acrobatics to get there to save her.
Xena single-mindedly tries to find Gabrielle after the ship capsizes.
Xena's skepticism comes up again later on, when she smacks a kid who is starting to pray hysterically to Poseidon.
Autolycus gives Xena a nice look of stunned/amazed/impressed when she throws a -- spear? -- into the metal rudder, as if he has never before truly understood how impressive she is.
In a quiet moment, Gabrielle reaches over and clasps Xena's hand tenderly.
Intertextuality
- Homage to "The Poseidon Adventure"
