The parent-child relationship ... the father-daughter relationship. See also parent-child relationships, mother-daughter relationships, father-son relationships.
The motherless daughter raised by her father is a staple of SF; in Golden Age pulp, she often showed up as the only child of a scientist, who was his loyal and loving assistant or secretary -- the scientist's daughter.
Notable father-daughter relationships in SF:
- Lara Croft
- James Patrick Kelly, "Itsy Bitsy Spider"
- Karen Joy Fowler, "The Elizabeth Complex"
Common examples outside of SF of the same issue:
- Nancy Drew
- Veronica Mars
