Nadine Gordimer is a Nobel-prize winning writer and activist, particularly noted for her anti-apartheid activism and writing.

Her writing is generally in the realistic mode, but she has occasionally moved toward SF.

  • July's People (1981) tells the story of a future South Africa in which the majority black population, infuriated with decades of oppression, starts a bloody revolution with reprisals against white people. Written as a novel of the future, it has since become an alternate future.
