Line 1: Line 1:
In general writers should be defined by a (sub-)genre only if it is the only genre in which they write, or if they define themselves by writing in that genre. For instance, a writer who writes both fantasy and science fiction should just get :Category:Writers, not :Category:Science fiction writers, :Category:Fantasy writers, and :Category:Writers.  However, if the writer explicitly only writes fantasy, then they should get :Category:Fantasy writers and :Category:Writers.  All writers should get :Category:Writers regardless of any sub-genre categorization.
: Propose converting these subcategories to Lists; that way they can inclusively list anybody who writes within a genre. See FSFwiki:Organizing information. --LQ 14:16, 2 May 2007 (PDT)

: Includes genre and medium. Basic medium-oriented categories (like "Screenwriters") should continue to exist separately as categories.  Perhaps should move to "Writers by genre and format".
