Diffusion as used here on the FSFwiki is a concept in categorizing. It refers to the process of moving items from a larger category into appropriate subcategories. For instance, moving items from Category:Works of fiction into either Category:Works of SF or Category:Works of non-SF fiction.

It is distinguished from using categories as tags and from redundant categorization.
