Steven Baxter, an ordinary man from Manchester, returns after a forty-day disappearance, claiming to be the son of God, and begins performing miracles and announcing the coming of a Third Testament.
This sets the world in chaos, and upsets Steve's circle of friends, one of whom, named Judith Roach, remains skeptical of Steve's claims, at the same time as his returns allows them to grow closer to each other.
Demonic forces try to interfere with this Second Coming, and attempt to influence the people around Steve.
