Tomoe Gozen (approx. 1157– approx. 1247) is a historical woman warrior; she was a Japanese samurai. Her first appearance was in the Heiki Monogatari, and some have suggested that she was a purely fictional invention.
She has been represented in fiction and art numerous times:
- Jessica Amanda Salmonson wrote a trilogy of novels about her, Tomoe, The Golden, Thousand Shrine (See Tomoe Gozen (Salmonson character))
