Geekdom is an overlapping Boolean circle with fandom. Geeks are people who "geek out" or have extreme enthusiasm over things. It could be anything, stamps, cooking, knowledge. However, it is most frequently associated with the information technology industries.

There is significant overlap between fans and geeks. Fans could be described as "geeks" for their particular fandom (e.g., "science fiction" or "cosplay" or Battlestar Galactica). Alternatively, geeks could be described as "fans" of some particular interest.
