The heist or caper story is usually the story of a criminal enterprise, fraught with danger, peril, and suspense, told from the perspective of the heister/criminal. Usually, the criminal side is a team or conspiracy, and the interactions between the conspirators may lead to some of the problems they experience.

A significant element of the work involves the planning of "the job".

Many heist/caper stories are humorous, although certainly not all.

A list of works (with some feminist or gender interest) that are heist or caper stories:

  • Xena: Warrior Princess episode "The Royal Couple of Thieves"
  • Firefly episodes - Because the crew were "petty thieves", heists & caper elements were in many of the episodes; however, some episodes were classic, full-on heist/caper stories: "The Train Job" (1x02); "Ariel" (1x09); and "Trash" (1x11).
  • "Alias - Numerous episodes, perhaps almost all, in Alias revolved around capers / heists of some sort.
