Le Livre de la cité des dames (1405) (famously transl. in Eng. as The Book of the City of Ladies) is an allegorical utopian society, depicting a city filled with women of noble spirit, often drawn from the lives of the saints. It is also a defense of the virtues of women, and an early work arguing that women should be educated.
