Gender ambiguity might refer to several different types of ambiguity:

  • ambiguity in presentation, of a character, e.g., by the author not using marked pronouns, or by deliberately using conflicting signals of various sorts
  • a person or character's ambiguity with respect to their own gender identity or other aspects of gender
