A series of six books by David Brin consisting of two trilogies.

The 1st Trilogy

  • Sundiver (1980)
  • Startide Rising (1983)
  • The Uplift War (1987)

Each these functions as a stand alone novel though the stories are interconnected

The 2nd Trilogy

  • Brightness Reef
  • Infinity's Shore
  • Heaven's Reach

These three novel are one story arch.

Gendered Words

In the novels Man is used to mean all humans. Fem is used for adult female humans. Mel is used for adult male humans. Fin is used for neo-dolphins. However this usage is not consistent thourghtout. Man and woman are still used.

At one point in Startide Rising a male neo-dolphin thinks "what can one human female do" I can't imagine him using male in place of female.
