This is a log (reverse chronological) of significant changes to the administration of the FSFwiki. If you want to comment or point out problems, just do so by adding a brief comment below the log entry; use an indented bullet by typing ** before your comment). 2007 Log

• 2007/9/27 --Liz Henry 08:52, 27 September 2007 (PDT)
  • - edited LocalSettings file to exclude css spam.
  • - edited extensions/recaptcha/ConfirmEdit options. Registered users do not trigger a captcha.
    • $wgGroupPermissions['user' ]['skipcaptcha'] = true;
    • $ceAllowConfirmedEmail = true;
    • $wgCaptchaWhitelist = true;
  • - edited .htaccess to add rule against blank user-agent
    • SetEnvIf User-Agent ^$ spammer=yes (explained in comments in .htaccess)
  • would like to install Bad Behavior as well as described here http://wiki.evernex.com/index.php?title=Blocking_Spam_in_Mediawiki

• 2007/8/14 - updated references files per mediawiki.org
• 2007/6/13 - added Recaptcha
  • it has a speech-recognition captcha for accessibility for visually disabled people
  • it is a shared computing project that helps OCR book scanning projects
  • it is triggered by a) anonymous IP edits with a URL; b) new user registration; c) brute-force password cracking
• 2007/6/3 - upgraded to 1.10.0
• 2007/5/19 - fixed the sidebar search AGAIN
• 2007/4/22 - trying to set up interwiki features: mediawiki instrux
• 2007/3/29 - Trying to set up a "Template:FrontFeature" template for the first page.
• 2007/3/29 - Trying to fix the ISBN thing so that we can edit our own list and include our own text.

  • edited MediaWiki:Booksourcetext but it did not change the text at Special:Booksources.
  • Edited FSFwiki:Book sources (NOT MediaWiki:Book sources) and can change our list; now it gets rid of the original text, but still doesn't pull from MediaWiki:Booksourcetext
  • Adapted instructions at [1] to add referral links; added derivative work referral code until can figure out fsf
  • Tested FSFwiki:Booksourcetext but still doesn't pull from there. Huh?
• 2007/2/20 - fixed the sidebar search thing again
• 2007/2/13 - trying to add the refs template & related cite.php files per WikiMedia
• 2007/2/3 - upgraded mediawiki to 1.9 per dreamhost instructions at [2] --LQ 17:48, 3 February 2007 (PST)
• 2007/1/23 - Copied disambiguation templates from wikipedia {{disambig}} at Template:Disambig --LQ

• 2007/1/11 - Went back through all the IP addresses blocked for spamming, and set them to just having anonymous edits blocked for a temporary (6 months - 1 year) period of time. No infinite blocking, and no blocking of new-account-creation. --LQ 11:07, 11 January 2007 (PST)

• 2007/1/9 - Added annoying david st*mpel viagra spam to the $wgSpamRegex in LocalSettings.php
  • 1/10 - trying to add the word "st*mpel" - not sure if it will work for page titles? --LQ 15:35, 10 January 2007 (PST)
  • 1/11 - no, it didn't work. Trying a new approach - cleaning out the spam pages and then protecting them from anonymous users. --LQ 05:56, 11 January 2007 (PST)
  • 1/23 - and amazingly, for now, spam has slowed down .... --LQ 19:51, 23 January 2007 (PST)
• 2007/1/4 - Moved search on left side to top, just below logo; per instructions at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Layout_customization (copied at FSFwiki:Sidebar search)
  • This will have to be done after every wiki upgrade, because it's not a LocalSettings.php fix. It's a change to wiki.feministsf.net/skins/MonoBook.php . (2007/2/20)

2006 Log

• 2006/12/19 - Added ParserFunctions extension per instructions at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ParserFunctions --LQ 11:26, 19 December 2006 (PST)

• 2006/12/12 - Added .htaccess and changes to LocalSettings.php to have "clean" URLs, a la http://wiki.feministsf.net/Main_page rather than http://wiki.feministsf.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page. Per instructions at http://wiki.welldesignedurls.org/Clean_Urls_for_MediaWiki . --LQ 11:42, 12 December 2006 (PST)
  • turned it off 2006/12/20 because causing problems with articles with an ampersand in them

• 2006/12 - copying & modifying a few relevant templates from wikipedia to modify further as needed; i.e., book template, biography template

• 2006/11 & 2006/12 - Editing (playing with, really) the navigation bars on the side (MediaWiki:Sidebar. --LQ 11:42, 12 December 2006 (PST)

• 2006/6/30 - adding $wgSpamRegex line to deal with the spammers who are putting in random series of numbers for no apparent reason. See FSFwiki:Wiki Spam.

• 2006/6/27 - turning on sorbs to deal with spammers

• 2006/4/23 - MediaWiki installed & wiki set up & alive and available to the world. "0" AF ("After FSFwiki").
