Elise Matthesen is a fan, artist, bisexual activist, and poet, living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her short fiction has been published in various places, including "The Stone Girl" in Xanadu 3, edited by Jane Yolen. She sells named (as well as un-named) jewelry at science fiction conventions and encourages purchasers of named jewelry to write stories or poems based on the names. Many authors, including Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear have accepted this "artist's challenge," as Matthesen names it. A link to Monette's essay based on one necklace, "Rhino Carries the Moon" can be found below.

Matthesen is married to John Ladwig, and was the romantic partner of John M. Ford.
