Venus Plus X is a 1960 novel by Ted Sturgeon.

As Sturgeon says, in Venus Plus X he was attempting "a) to write a decent book b) about sex." Venus Plus X is about a human male who visits a society composed of hermaphrodites. The story of this man's (Charlie Johns) observations and narrative is interspliced & juxtaposed with those of a young suburban couple, who believe they are part of a new (non-sexist) type of couple.
