"I am a doctoral candidate at Ohio University's School of Interpersonal Communication. My interests are in rhetorics of space and place, as well as political, protest, and nationalistic discourse. My current projects include analysis of panoptiscopic influences in Bellamy's Looking Backward, exploration of emancipatory metonymies for world wide web, and interrogation of the dystopian implications of planned communities such as Walt Disney's "Celebration" city. Utopianism forms a locus of my research because it inspires study of the ways that spatial practices serve the rhetorical function of discipline and liberation." Andy maintains the Center for Utopian Studies on the Web.
