The classic "girl reporter" is from "His Girl Friday", smart-talking, independent, "feisty". Women reporters since then have often been influenced by this character. Particularly influential in girls' literature, too; as in Harriet the Spy, whose Harriet shows many of the skills of the typical girl journalist: feisty, nosy.
- Serina on "Battlestar Galactica" (1978)
- Lois Lane (DC Comics & various media adaptations)
- Polly Perkins in "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" (2004)
- Sarah Jane Smith, in Doctor Who and spin-offs.
- Chloe Sullivan in "Smallville"
