Magic words are not really a fantastic device. Instead, they are words assigned special meaning in the mediawiki software by mediawiki programmers. They perform fantastic functions.

List of magic words

ISBN someisbnnumber
ISBN links to the list of books for sale when followed by an ISBN. Must be all-caps. (Further reading: ISBN links @ mediawiki)
{{DEFAULTSORT:Title of the Work, The}}
DEFAULTSORT defines how the page with defaultsort should be sorted in any and all of its categories. Can be overridden by specific category sorting instructions within a specific category tag (the pipe trick; e.g., "[[Category:Writers|Jones, Janice]]" would override "{{DEFAULTSORT:Wesson, Jones}}".
