Banner of Souls is a deeply weird novel by Liz Williams, published in 2004 and shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award and nominated for the Phillip K. Dick Award.
In a far future, genetic alteration, cybernetic technology, and weird fantasy-esque technologies ("haunt-tech") have created all-female societies.
Major characters:
- Lunae - growing girl with special powers
- Yskatarina Iye - an assassin from the far asteroid colonies
