"The Jersey Devil" is the fifth episode of The X-Files (the fourth regular episode, not counting the pilot). The story focuses on a series of mysterious deaths in New Jersey, that appear to be done by a wild creature.
Gender
"Maternal instinct" is a major theme. The Jersey Devil is a female wild woman, motivated by maternal instinct; Scully visits her old friend who's throwing a party for her son (Scully's god-son), and describes her friend as "a natural", seeming wistful and yet a little glad-it's-not-me.
