The gradual decline is a staple of SF. Post-gradual decline works might follow the pattern of any post-apocalyptic work. The decline-and-fall setting itself is also a popular one. Gradual decline stories offer opportunities to explore:
- who's at fault (e.g., the patriarchy)
- how to stop it (revolution, feminism)
- political repercussions (revolution on the one hand, repression on the other)
