Wilmar House Shiras (aka Jane Howes) is a SF writer most famous for her 1948 novella "In Hiding", which she expanded into a 1953 novel, Children of the Atom. The premise of "In Hiding" has been credited with inspiring the very similar idea of The X-Men.
