Promethea is a comic book series by Alan Moore, J. H. Williams III, and Mick Gray.

Sophie Bangs is a New York City college student who becomes the eponymous superhero Promethea, whose task it is to bring about the end of the world.

"Promethea" is a feminine version of "Prometheus", in Greek mythology a Titan who gave fire to the mortals (and was punished rather horribly for doing so).
