Opera as an art form combines music (in the western classical or modern style) and theater/stagecraft. Most operas contain central roles for women, although often with significant sexism in the characterization and plot. Many operas contain supernatural elements, and some are outright based on SFal stories or elements; SF stories like The Handmaid's Tale or fantastic or mythological stories.
