Gabrielle wants to give Eve her right of caste, to make her an Amazon. They travel to the northern tribes, which are now lead by Cyane. Yakut is dead, but her spirit has something to tell Xena. Gabrielle, as part of the initiation, is sent on a visionquest to an earlier time. In that time, the legendary Amazon warrior Samsara asked for a saviour; a woman from the modern era was sent back to the past to be the saviour, Utma. She gets to run around and be an Amazon in a blue sweater and jeans. The beginnings of the Amazon tribe came from that proto-Amazon tribe, which was at war with a local cannibal tribe that killed all their menfolk.
In the present day, the Amazons want to wreak vengeance on the marauders who killed their people, but their remembrance of the past shows that their leaders wanted them to live in peace.
Bad news: Yakut went to the great beyond, and so did, apparently, Amarice.
.... This episode was cobbled together from a failed season pilot, for a show called "Amazon High". Looks like it could have been cool. The girl from the future gave them their name (Amazons) and, it looks like, some of their funky dance moves.
