A couple of comments on this article (which I love, btw, particularly the instruction to admire Vasquez's muscles!): 1) The actress who played Vasquez was not, in fact, Latina, though the character was obviously supposed to be. Does this make the possible racism of the characterization better or worse? Not sure. See this site for more information about how she got the role and changes made to her appearance. 2) Ripley and Vasquez weren't the only tough women in the movie. The ship was piloted by a woman (Ferro) who despite being killed early on still delivered some memorable lines, including at least two that were later used in the computer game Starcraft; and there was a Corporal Dietrich who was also killed early on. Rather than editing the page myself, I thought I'd give the original author (Laura?) the chance to modify it. It's so nicely written I don't want to mess with it! --Therem 12:11, 12 February 2007 (PST)

  • Please mess around; I don't own the article! It's a wiki. Especially please raise the issue about the non-Latina woman playing a Latina character. And that discussion should be linked to an article about transracial/transgender casting, and the particular problems associated with having white women play women of color -- as happens all the time. I'm a chump for not picking up on that in this instance too. ... Also, I totally forgot about Ferro. Please write away! --LQ 17:05, 12 February 2007 (PST)

Why does the entry title have "(Aliens)" at the end, again? Are there lots of Private Vasquezes that require disambiguation for this one? --Ide Cyan 21:18, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

I wish! ha. anyway good point. it could have easily been me just being anal about disambiguation at some point. but unnec i agree. --LQ 22:13, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

Templates screwing up formatting

...is anyone else seeing all the text of the entry pushed down by a full screen height by the various templates at the top? Is there any way to fix this? --Ide Cyan 21:45, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

I'm not -- what operating system/browser are you using? --LQ 22:08, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

The tools of evil... Windows XP and IE. --Ide Cyan 22:24, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

Does this happen on wikipedia for you ever? here on fsfwiki is it just private vasquez? what about other pages with the EFC or femchar templates? ... no more answers tonight! tomorrow. the internet will still be here in the morning i'm told. --LQ 22:33, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

I don't remember this problem with Wikipedia, and the template that seems to be causing the problem is the WOC template. I'm getting the same problem on other pages where it's used in this Wiki. --Ide Cyan 08:42, 1 May 2007 (PDT)

okay, i'll try to troubleshoot. if you can take a screenshot of what it looks like that would be cool. a couple more questions: (1) also does it appear on any items using the QW template? e.g., List of SF featuring queer women as protagonists ? (2) does it appear only on pages where templates are stacked? or any page with the WOC template? --LQ 11:53, 1 May 2007 (PDT)

I've just e-mailed you a screencap what of the Dayna page looks like to me. Stacking templates does seem to be an issue. --Ide Cyan 11:59, 1 May 2007 (PDT)

Okay I'll look at that. I've also just set up two test templates -- please look at Private_Vasquez/test1 and Private_Vasquez/test2 and see if either of them are any different from the problem you usually get, or what. --LQ 12:16, 1 May 2007 (PDT)
  • Also if there are differences with the order of the templates. --LQ 12:34, 1 May 2007 (PDT)
