List of Xena episodes

Description (and spoilers)

Xena faces The Horde, who are sort of like the Reavers (crazy torturers who torture people to death, and apparently cannibalize them; they show up from nowhere, for no known reason; need to use corpses for decoys) and the Oruk-hai (menacing pursuit along a river; rising from the river like the birth scene) in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. What is it with depicting the worst craziest kinds of people with matted or dreadlocked hair? At least, in Xena, the Horde is not racially coded by skin color; just style (hair, make-up, dress).

A nice little bit of language reference: The Athenians all assume that when dying members of the Horde say "kaltaka" they are calling to their god(s); instead, Gabrielle learns it simply means "water".

Is this the first time Xena curses on the show?

X: We’re not gonna let these bastards defeat the élite of the Athenian army, are we?!”
Soldiers: “No!”
Athenian Soldier: “Tell us what to do, Xena!”
X: “Do? We’re gonna kill ‘em all!”
Athenian soldiers cheer

Xena-Gabrielle relationship

X to Gabrielle: You understand hatred, but you have never given into it. You don’t know how much I love — that.

Disclaimer

"To show sympathy for the Horde, 'kaltaka' was only served upon request during the production of this motion picture."
