Xena discovers how she got pregnant, and is the center of the battle between the old gods (Ares et al) and the new way (led by Eli, angel Callisto, and others); while Gabrielle once again is faced with the choice between the way of love and the way of war.
- After visiting Xenaverse-India and Xenaverse-China, we are now in Xenaverse-North Africa.
- Eli is trying to usher in the twilight of the gods, by encouraging people to give up their worship of the gods and "embrace the way of love." He is increasingly a Christ-like figure.
- The arc of the destruction of the Olympian gods and the transition to a new post-gods (post-magic, maybe Judeo-Christian) era is becoming more marked with this episode.
- It's pretty impressive to see pregnant Xena kicking ass, as she has been for the last several episodes.
- Gabrielle is increasingly proficient as a warrior; the last couple of episodes with a pair of sais (small hand weapons that are used to parry, disarm, throw, and stab).
- Xena is told / figures out that Callisto started the pregnancy, and is being reincarnated as Xena's baby.
Dialog
- Ares pops in and snarks to Xena: "You, on the other hand, have been keeping yourself busy. I wish I'd known you were looking for a father."
- Xena: "I'm not."
- Ares: "Oh? Well, somebody clearly got the job."
- Xena: "Yeah, Gabrielle."
- Areas looks back and forth between the two of them. "I would have paid to see that."
- Gabrielle smirks and looks a little embarrassed.
Later:
- Ares: "You'll always be a goody-two-shoes."
- Gabrielle: "Yeah, but with a really big sword."
