He, She, and It

He, She, and It is a near-future cyberpunk novel by Marge Piercy.

The world is divided into corporate controlled cities and free cities. The hero was originally from a free city, worked in a corporate city, and has returned to her home town. She is of Jewish heritage, and the story is a retelling of the Jewish myth of the golem.

Much commentary on gender roles, and also of interest for its concern with the commodification of information versus an "information wants to be free" ideology.
