Franfreluche is a television character who was created and portrayed by Kim Yaroshevskaya, notably in the francophone television show named after the character, from 1968 to 1971 on Radio-Canada. She is a landmark character in the history of television in Québec. Yaroshevskaya wrote and starred in all of the episodes herself.
Fanfreluche is a living ragdoll who reads fairy tales from very large storybooks while sitting in a chair. She addresses herself directly to the camera, taking the children watching at home as her intended audience. The action of her fairy tales is portrayed onscreen with actors, puppets and special effects, and Fanfreluche inserts herself into the narrative of the stories she is telling, and physically interact with the characters and settings to change the way things are going and put her own spin on events.
