Passive voice is the form of a transitive verb whose grammatical subject serves as the patient, receiving the action of the verb.

It is the opposite of active voice, in which the grammatical subject is the agent performing the action of the verb.

Passive voice can disguise, distract from, or completely erase the cause of an action, which is an especially deceitful technique when a sentence concerns a situation of oppression.
