Elsie Wollheim

Elsie Balter (1910-1996) was, along with Judith Merril, Doris Baumgardt (aka Leslie Perri), Mary Byers, and Rosalind Cohen, a member of the early fandom group called the Futurians. In the late 1920s and early 1930s she was going to college and working as a bookkeeper, stenographer, and typist. She worked for Rosalined Cohen in a law office, and through Rosalind became involved with the nucleus of people who became the Futurians. She married Donald A. Wollheim. Co-founder of DAW Books. Active in the League of Women Voters and an avid follower of theater, opera and poetry.
