Ayn Rand was a writer best known for creating the "Objectivist" philosophy, an ultimately individualist and anti-collectivist philosophy. She was also an explicitly anti-feminist writer, although like many powerful women she both benefited from the feminist movement and supported some of its aims. She was also homophobic, although in keeping with her generally libertarian views, she disapproved of government regulation of homosexuality.

Works

  • Anthem (a dystopian novel in which a collectivist society has triumphed)
  • Atlas Shrugged ("a day without industrialists" is disastrous in this fantasy)
