Elsie Wollheim

Elise Balter was, along with Judith Merril, Doris Baumgardt (aka Leslie Perri), Mary Byers, and Rosalind Cohen, a member of the early fandom group called the Futurians. In the late 1920s and early 1930s she was going to college and working as a bookkeeper, stenographer, and typist. She worked for Rosalined Cohen in a law office, and through Rosalind became involved with the nucleus of people who became the Futurians. She married Donald A. Wollheim. At some point she was working for DAW Books as an editor.
