"[[[What I Didn't See]] by Karen Joy Fowler was published in 1992 in SciFiction. The story is a fictional exploration on the historical travels of explorer Mary Hastings Bradley and her daughter Alice B. Sheldon, better known to science-fiction fans as James Tiptree, Jr..

Although the story won the Nebula Award, it also was the center of a lengthy online controversy, because it has no science-fictional content.
