Hypatia Cade is the protagonist of Anne McCaffrey's The Ship Who Searched (1992), the second book in the Brainship series. As a child, Hypatia contracts a virus that renders her quadriplegic. She enters a program to become the brain of a ship. The story is in large part the story of her love for the character Alex.
