Black Canary is one of a series of characters in the DC Universe.

She first appeared in Flash Comics #86 (Aug. 1947), created by Robert Kanigher (writer) and Carmine Infantino (artist). This edition of Black Canary was a member of the Justice Society of America.

The character was rewritten to be two characters in the 1980s, after a retcon memory transfer from mother to daughter.
