Through Zeldin's memories and conversations we learn she also worked for the U.S. government as an intelligence agent and torturer. She is imprisoned by Sedgewick, then escapes to the Free Zone, writes a revolutionary book telling the secrets of the ruling executive class, and is imprisoned again by Elizabeth Weatherall. After her death she becomes an iconic hero of resistance to government.
