Mary Mapes Dodge is best known today as the author of Hans Brinker; or, The Silver Skates (1865); however, she was also a successful 19th century editor of at Hearth and Home (with Harriet Beecher Stowe) and with St. Nicholas Magazine, a popular children's magazine in the late 19th century.
