- Sam has been missing for a week. When Dean finally finds him, Sam is amnesiac, and covered in blood; as they figure out what happened to him, it turns out he killed a hunter; he smoked, and was verbally abusive to a store-keeper. Sam begs Dean to kill him so that he doesn't hurt anybody else -- Dean says he'd rather die. Sam knocks him unconscious and leaves. Then shows up where Jo Harvelle is working (at a bar). He notices that she is carrying a torch for Dean, tells her Dean thinks of her as a schoolgirl or a little sister, and makes a pass at her. She rejects him, and he sexually assaults her, knocks her out, ties her up, and uses her as bait. When Dean shows up Sam begs him again to shoot him -- Dean refuses and throws holy water on him instead. Sam runs away and Dean follows. They end up on a dock, and Sam shoots Dean in the shoulder, knocking him into the water, and leaves. Jo finds Dean and bandages him. Sam shows up at Bobby's door; Bobby gives him holy water in his beer, and incapacitates him. Dean and Bobby try to exorcise the demon -- who is Meg. Meg taunts them, noting to Dean that she wants nothing more to torture him, but that whatever she does will be nothing compared to how much he tortures himself over losing their father and potentially Sam. She resists exorcism and starts reciting Latin herself. She frees herself and punches Dean, pinching into his injured shoulder. Bobby brands Sam with a hot iron rod and Meg leaves him. ... Later Bobby warns the boys not to tell what they know about Sam's possession or murder of the hunter (Steve Wandell). He gives them charms against possession (why don't all hunters have these all the time?) and they leave. In the car Sam asks Dean why he didn't do anything -- Dean says that he was told he'd have to do kill Sam if he couldn't save him, but that he would save him if it was the last thing he did.
