Mary Reilly (1996) is a horror film directed by Stephen Frears. The screenplay was written by Christopher Hampton, adapted from the novel by Valerie Martin.

It is also derived from the story of the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by R.L. Stevenson.

Notes / Analysis

The movie changed several things about the story as it was in Valerie Martin's novel, to the point where it becomes almost unrecogniseable.

For one thing, in the film, Mary never writes.
