Star Trek: The Original Series (at the time, simply called "Star Trek") is an influential TV series that first aired from 1966 to 1969. It included 80 filmed episodes, 79 of which were aired during the original broadcast.
The series spawned a massive media franchise, including live action and animated TV series; films; and novelizations. In addition, a thriving fan culture developed, including fanfiction and fan produced series. Perhaps most famously, the Kirk/Spock slash, which gave "slash" its name.
