TARDIS, or Tardis, stands for Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space
It is the name of the space-time ship in Doctor Who, and generally of the Time Lords' distinctive means of transport. TARDISes are dimensionally transcendental machines, which can exist simultaneously in different dimensions, allowing their interiors to be much larger than their exteriors, for instance.
The Doctor sometimes calls his TARDIS "old girl". It is a Type 40, and generally considered obsolete and unreliable, and its chameleon circuit is broken, so that its exterior shape remains that of a 20th century London police telephone box.
The Master and the the Rani also have TARDISes.
