Transgendered people are people whose gender identity or gender expression does not correspond either to the gender category that their society assigns to people of their biological sex, or to the limits of a strict division of gender.

The sex-class hierarchy often situates transgendered people lower than cisgendered people, for a number of reasons.

However, transgenderism does not necessarily follow from a sex-class interpretation of gender.
