The Peacekeepers are a fictional military organisation from the television series Farscape.
The initials PK often serves as an abbreviation for "Peacekeeper" for adjectival constructions.
Overview
Peacekeeper Society
Peacekeepers are comprised almost entirely of Sebacean personel, and many Peacekeepers are born into service, bred and raised on board military spaceships.
The Peacekeeper were originally a force for good, an independent party who helped resolve conflicts and protect weaker groups of people, but they had become an oppressive, quasi-fascist and colonialist organisation when they were introduced in the premiere.
Peacekeeper ranks are nominally gender-free, according equal status to male and female personel, but the majority of the instances of sexually harassing behaviour by Peacekeepers towards non-Peacekeepers shown in the series were noticeably anti-female. This correlates with the higher incidence of male representation among the ranks of the Peacekeepers, and places them in parallel with patriarchal military organisations.
One female Peacekeeper officer, Commandant Mele-On Grayza, used sex and sexual assault against both Peacekeeper and non-Peacekeeper males to achieve her ends.
Female Peacekeeper officers are genetically modified so that, in case of conception during military campaigns, their embryos go into stasis, stalling the pregnancy until the stasis can be medically reversed. Personal attachments are discouraged within the ranks, but recreational sex is encouraged as form of stress relief.
To maintain and/or replenish their numbers, the Peacekeepers carry out breeding programs within their own ranks, and conscription among civilian Sebacean populations.
In addition to soldiers, the Peacekeepers also employ non-combattant technicians, whose status among Peacekeeper ranks is lower than that of military personel. (Cf: "PK Tech Girl".)
