Internal chronology:

Publishing history

Le Guin first published an Earthsea story in 1964:

She then published over a short period of time a trilogy set in Earthsea:

Le Guin added a story in 1975:

The trilogy was extended to include Tehanu, after Le Guin observed that the original trilogy was like a four-legged stool missing a leg.

After several years away from Earthsea, Le Guin returned with "Dragonfly", which she has described as "an important bridge in the series as a whole", and then "Darkrose and Diamond" shortly thereafter.

In 2001 Le Guin published the novel The Other Wind, and Tales from Earthsea, a collection of Earthsea short stories, three of them original to the collection).
