Bacchae

In Greek mythology, the Bacchae were ferocious women crazed by drink; followers of Bacchus, the god of wine.

Portrayals

• Xena: Warrior Princess episode 2x04, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" - portrayed the Bacchae as vampires
• Elsewhere in Xena: Warrior Princess the term is used to refer to vampires (see, e.g., "The Play's the Thing" when two critics mention "Buffus the Bacchae Slayer") and as a synonym for "bitch", as in, "sonuvabitch" or "son of a bacchae" (The Convert)
