Publishing history

Le Guin first published an Earthsea story in 1964:

The original trilogy was:

  1. A Wizard of Earthsea (1968 novel)
  2. The Tombs of Atuan (1971 novel)
  3. The Farthest Shore (1972 novel)

Le Guin added a story in 1975:

It was extended to include Tehanu, after Le Guin observed that the original trilogy was like a four-legged stool missing a leg.

  1. Tehanu: The Last Book of Earthsea (1990 novel)

Le Guin then added "Dragonfly", which she has described as "an important bridge in the series as a whole".

In 2001 Le Guin published the novel The Other Wind, and Tales from Earthsea, a collection of Earthsea short stories.
