Publishing history
Le Guin first published an Earthsea story in 1964:
- "The Word of Unbinding" (1964, Jan. 1964 issue of Fantastic)
She then published over a short period of time a trilogy set in Earthsea:
- A Wizard of Earthsea (1968 novel)
- The Tombs of Atuan (1971 novel)
- The Farthest Shore (1972 novel)
Le Guin added a story in 1975:
- "The Rule of Names" (1975)
The trilogy was extended to include Tehanu, after Le Guin observed that the original trilogy was like a four-legged stool missing a leg.
After several years away from Earthsea, Le Guin returned with "Dragonfly", which she has described as "an important bridge in the series as a whole", and then "Darkrose and Diamond" shortly thereafter.
- "Dragonfly" (1997 short story)
- "Darkrose and Diamond" (1999 short story)
In 2001 Le Guin published the novel The Other Wind, and Tales from Earthsea, a collection of Earthsea short stories, three of them original to the collection).
- The Other Wind (2001 novel)
- Tales from Earthsea (2001 collection)
